DIY Jewelry Board

Hi all!

I've haven't been selling as of much lately as my work has been keeping my very busy. But I am getting ready to start up again in August. I have done some items on the back end such as ordering more jewelry,  got approved for a sellers permit (if you intend to sell at a public venue, it's a must) and making more display cases to highlight the beautiful jewelry! One of these things happens to be making a new jewelry case very functional and serves as a case to house all jewelry and a display case. It is very well polished and an eye catcher. And the great part is when you tell people you made it yourself, they are totally amazed. Here are two that I've made. Both different but made the same way. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to message me.

Materials:

  • 2 Shadow Boxes ( Same size) I got mine from Michaels. A bit pricy but if you wait, you can buy them for 40% off
  • Double Prong Peg Hooks- Home depot has many different sizes, shapes, colors
  • Power Drill

Step 1:
Take the backing out of the shadow box. Measure and space out where you would like each peg to hang.

Step 2:
Drill holes on the board, making sure that each peg hole fits. I had a bit of a hard time (first time using a drill!) but with enough practice, you'll be able to gauge it.

Step 3:
After you're done drilling, put the shadow box back together. I used a lint remover to get rid of any dust particles on the board.  Repeat steps 1-3 for the second shadow box. Once it's all put back together, hang the pegs and put your jewelry on it!

Step 4 (Optional):
You can also have an option of putting in handles- which helps to transport. Below is the very same one I have on mine and it's about $4 at Home Depot. You can pick one that you like the best but this gave it a clean finish.

Step 5 (Optional):
I wanted to merge both the shadow boxes so I got this hinge and drilled holes on the side. They come in different colors and sizes.

Hi all!

I had my first event yesterday and it was a success! There was a company putting on a community event for people who may be struggling and going through some tough times. They had a lot of families come and a bunch of free give aways. It was a great event with, lots of people and Santa Claus even made an appearance.

How did I find the event? I've been doing a lot of research online through CL, google, newspapers for upcoming fairs, events and even checking out big name venues such as CalExpo. Seems like there are many events going on within the coming months. I found this event through Craigslist. It was fairly easy to book the event with a small vendor fee.

There was some challenges preparing for the event but the more you do it, the more you will become a pro. Here are some tips for planning your first event:
  • Make sure you email, connect with the agency and state your interest. Ask questions such as how many people will be in attendance, location, time, what time you should arrive for prep, how big are the tables, will you be close to a plug (if you need it), cost to be a vendor.
  • Order more items and make sure you have enough. (for more info on how many you should order, read the Paparazzi Accessories Manual) Order a wide variety of items. You never know what people like. Don't forget to ask them who is the target audience (ie. Family, suggestion would be to stock on youth items than you normally would)
  • Think about how you want to set up our booth: table cloth, jewelry holders...what would make it stand out. For this first one, I put my shadow box up, necklace stand and some bowls at Goodwill for rings and youth items. BE CREATIVE! Make your own. There are many DIY items out there you can do. It doesn't really have to be super expensive. Make it your own.
  • One thing that was really helpful for me was I had a Square- which allows you to accept credit cards on hand through your smart phone. Super convenient!
  • The night before: PACK ALL ITEMS and make sure to double check. The next morning should be just going to the venue and setting up.
  • Make sure you have extra change in smaller bills and quarters.
  • Keep extra flyers and business cards on hand. Let customers know if they would like to host a party, you are available. Of if they are looking for specific items for a special night, or someone's birthday, you can meet them in a public space. Promote your website, facebook or other social media site you have set up. For those interested in becoming a consultant or hosting a part, make sure you also get their information and follow up no more later than a week.
  • HAVE FUN! Be PROUD of yourself because YOU did this all your own. YOU made this happen!
  • Last step is to think about positives, negatives and how it could be better next time around.

Hi folks!!

Been a busy two weeks for me. Headed to San Luis Obispo last week for a work trip and brought my huge jewelry box and was able to sell some items  =)  Seriously, the jewelry sell themselves.

Just got a new shipment in today and have been getting ready for the Community Event this coming weekend. My first time being a vendor for Paparazzi!! I'm hoping it will go well. Been working on trying finishing up a DIY Jewelry Holder and uploading pics of new items.

Stay tuned!
